Double champions in MMA
Double belt, double champion (or simultaneous champion in cases where the belts are won without abandoning or losing the other) is an achievement made by MMA fighters in several categories.
Controversies
Some sports experts argue that a double championship could be detrimental to one of the double champion's divisions. One of the two divisions would be blocked, being unfair to the challengers who deserve a chance by the dispute. This can be due to the fact that MMA athletes cannot compete in short periods of time (except for rare exceptions that win very fast and without injuries), having an average recovery time and another training time at the camp. These moments can last for months: a quarter or even a semester. Add to that that some athletes may need more time to adjust their weight, getting used to the new body, delaying it even more in the title disputes of one of the divisions.[1]
