Croydon Fire Brigade

The Croydon Fire Brigade was the fire and rescue service for the County Borough of Croydon up until 1965 when it was absorbed by the London Fire Brigade.[1]

Stations

Before 1906, Croydon Fire Station was located on Katherine Street in Croydon.[2] In 1906, the station moved to Park Lane, where it stayed until 1960, and was demolished in 1961.[2] The current Croydon Fire Station is located in Old Town, and officially opened on the 16th of September 1961. When the brigade was dissolved in 1965, the Old Town station continued to be the headquarters of the London Fire Brigade in Croydon, and maintains this role to this day.[3][4]

Woodside Fire Station was opened by the brigade in 1933, and continues to serve as an LFB station to this day.[5][4]

The brigade is also believed to have had stations in Thornton Heath and South Norwood.[6]

Notable Incidents

The brigade responded alongside the Penge Fire Brigade and London Fire Brigade to the Crystal Palace fire in 1936.[7]
