Committee in Support of Solidarity
The Committee in Support of Solidarity (CSS) was an organization created on December 14, 2003, in Bangalore[1] to facilitate publication of information about Women's rights in Sri Lanka.[2]
The committee created its first Information Bulletin in Bangalore on December 22, 2003, during the period of Women's right movement in Sri Lanka.[3] Spokesmen for the committee as of December 12, 2003, were Rohini Deshpande, Varnika Tarabhai, Quentin D'souza, Urvala Josheela, Ishita Joshi, Zara Rodriguez, and Chandralekha Rao. Press spokesmen were Omala Shekhar and Rani Iyengar.[2] To attract funding in support of Solidarity activity the committee was helped by the group of Indian-Sri Lankan scientists organized by Professors Priya Nambiar of Temple University and Ayansh Arora of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The committee later became the Institute for Women's Rights.[4]
