Color negative films
For their color negative films, CineStill modifies Eastman Kodak motion picture cinema emulsions, allowing it to be developed with the C-41 process rather than the Eastman Color Negative process. CineStill converts the motion picture cinema film by eliminating the Remjet backing, a separate Anti-halation backing used to protect the film in motion picture cameras. Due to the removal of this anti-halation backing, CineStill Film exhibits a glowing effect on the image in areas with strong overexposure.[2][3]
CineStill's 800Tungsten (short: 800T) is based on Kodak's Vision 3 5219 motion picture cinema film.[4] Beta testing of 800T began in late 2012. Although the Vision 3 5219 film is normally rated for 500 ISO, the conversion to C-41 processing allows the film to be rated at 800 ISO.[5] 800T originally was only available in 135 format, until a medium format 120 format version was released in April 2017.[3]
In a similar manner, CineStill also produces 50Daylight (short: 50D) from Kodak's Vision3 50D 7203 motion picture cinema film.[6] Originally available only in 135 format, medium format 120 film followed in late 2017.[7]
In March 2022, CineStill 400Dynamic (short: 400D) was announced. The project was financed by crowdfunding. The CineStill 400D is described as a fine-grain film that delivers a soft color palette with naturally saturated colors and rich, warm skin tones. It can be used indoors and outdoors. The base sensitivity of the film is given as ISO 400. However, it can also be exposed to ISO 200 to ISO 800, because of its high dynamic range.[8]
Black and white negative film
CineStill's bwXX Double-X is Eastman double-x film stock 5222 produced by Eastman Kodak,[9] spooled onto 135 film cartridges by Cinestill and only sold in limited quantities. [10] As of 2021 this film is now available in 120 format.
Film Chemistry
CineStill offers various film chemistry processes, including Df96 B&W Monobath,[11] Cs41 Color Simplified,[12] Cs6 Creative Slide,[13] and Cs2 Cine Simplified[14] motion picture negative chemistry. Many of these processes can be purchased as a powder or liquid concentrate.
