Brogan Rafferty

Brogan Rafferty (born May 28, 1995) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman currently playing for the San Diego Gulls in the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect to the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Playing career

Rafferty played college hockey at Quinnipiac University. On April 1, 2019, Rafferty signed a one-year entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks.[1] He played in his first National Hockey League game in the final stages of the 2018–19 season, on April 4 against the Nashville Predators, finishing with one shot on goal in 12:03 played.[2]

In the pandemic delayed 2020–21 season, Rafferty was a mainstay of the Canucks taxi squad. Remaining with the team for the duration of the season, Rafferty registered his first NHL point, an assist against the Montreal Canadiens in his lone appearance for the year on January 21, 2021.[3]

As a group 6 free agent from the Canucks, Rafferty left Vancouver and signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with division rivals, the Anaheim Ducks, on July 28, 2021.[4][5]

Personal life

Rafferty was a member of the National Honors society at Quinnipiac and was ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team all three of his years at the school. As a child Rafferty suffered from adolescent scoliosis and amblyopia, while the curvature of his spine has since been corrected he is still legally blind in his right eye.[6]
