Bloc Festival

Bloc Festival was an electronic music festival in England which began in 2006.[1] It was devoted to electronic music of all genres including electro, hip hop, IDM, techno, house music, reggae, drum and bass and dubstep, and incorporated both DJ sets and live shows.[2][3][4][5][6] Following a return of the festival in 2015, it was announced that the 2016 edition of the festival would be the last.[7]

History

2007 Pontin's Holiday Camp, Hemsby. Capacity: 2200.[8] Notable artists to perform were Autechre, Kool Keith, Basic Channel, Digital Mystikz & Robert Hood.[9]

2008 Pontin's Holiday Camp, Hemsby. Capacity: 2200.[10] Notable artists to perform were Karl Bartos, Amon Tobin, Juan Atkins, Phuture & Skream.[11]

2009 Butlin's Holiday Resort, Minehead. Capacity: 6400.[12] Notable artists to perform were Aphex Twin, Lee Scratch Perry, Afrika Bambaataa, Carl Craig, Modeselektor, Jamie Lidell, The Future Sound of London & Egyptian Lover.[13]

2010 Butlin's Holiday Resort, Minehead. Capacity: 6400.[14] Notable artists to perform were Autechre, Salt n Pepa, Boy Better Know, Flying Lotus, Grandmaster Flash, Mixmaster Mike, Roots Manuva Derrick May & Adam Beyer.[15]

2011 Butlin's Holiday Resort, Minehead. Capacity: 6400.[16] Notable artists to perform were Aphex Twin, Moderat, Apparat, Four Tet, Jamie xx, Laurent Garnier, LFO, & A Guy Called Gerald.[17]

2012 London Pleasure Gardens, London - Cancelled.[18]

On Friday 6 July 2012, organisers took the decision to cancel and evacuate the festival during its first night due to 'crowd safety concerns'.[19] Notable artists who had been billed to perform were Snoop Dogg, Orbital, Richie Hawtin, Nicolas Jaar, Jeff Mills, Ricardo Villalobos, Gary Numan, Flying Lotus, MF Doom & Battles.[20]

2013 - 2019 Autumn Street, London.

Bloc announces a series of events in East London. This marked a departure from the previous model of staging events at venues operated by a third party. The venue is an ex-industrial building on Autumn Street in Hackney Wick. Bloc and associated events continue to be held at this location and in October 2014 it was announced that this venue was to be renamed 'Bloc'.[21]

2015 Butlin's Holiday Resort, Minehead. Capacity: 6400.

On 15 October 2014, it was announced that the festival would return to Butlins Minehead on 13–15 March 2015.[22] Notable artists to perform were Jon Hopkins, Ben Klock, Jackmaster, ESG & DJ Pierre, Jeff Mills, Marcel Dettmann, & Moodymann.[23]

2016 Butlin's Holiday Resort, Minehead. Capacity: 7000 [24] . Notable artists to perform were Thom Yorke, Andrew Weatherall, Four Tet, Jeff Mills, Omar-S, Holly Herndon Goldie & Steve Davis.[25]
