Battle of Tadamakat (2020)

Battle

The French army had been looking for several days for Ba ag Moussa, an important figure of the jihadist movement in Africa and military commander of the JNIM.[1]

On November 10, French intelligence services detected the presence of a pick-up in the Tadamakat area, in the Ménaka region of Mali. Ba Ag Moussa is determined to be in the pickup accompanied by 4 other armed jihadists.

At the end of the day, around 6:00 p.m., a large-scale Operation is launched by the French special forces of Operation Sabre.[2]

Two transport helicopters with about fifteen French operators and two combat helicopters went to the scene with the support of a drone.

The helicopters then fire warning shots while the special operation group deploy on the ground. The jihadists decide to get out of the pick-up and immediately open fire towards the soldiers on the ground. After a fight of about fifteen minutes, the five jihadists were killed.

Aftermath

On November 13, the French Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parly confirmed the elimination of Ba Ag Moussa and 4 of his bodyguards during the operation. No French soldiers were injured during the operation.[3]
