Atractus badius

Atractus badius is a species of snakes in the family Colubridae.[2] The species is fossorial in rainforests.

The IUCN also lists the species as least concern because of its wide distribution and it is located in protected areas.[1]

Distribution

The IUCN says the species is endemic to the Guiana Shield.[1]

The species is distributed in Colombia, Suriname, French Guiana, Peru, and Brazil.[3] A. badius may also possibly occur in Venezuela.[1]

According to the British Herpetological Society, the species was mistakenly thought to occur in Argentina because a specimen was found in Las Palmas.[4]

Reproduction

The species is gonochoric and reproduces sexually[2] through oviparity.[3]

Common names

In English, the species goes by the common names St. Marta's ground snake, Dunn's ground snake,[2] French Guyana ground snake, and Boie's ground snake.[3]

While in Portuguese the species goes by the common names fura-terra or cobra-da-terra.[5]
