Ashok Chauhan
Ashok Chauhan is an Indian industrialist and president of the Amity Education Group. He is also the founder of Ritnand Balved Education Foundation.[1][2][3][4]
Personal life and career
Ashok Chauhan lives in New Delhi. According to his son, Atul, it was in the 1980s that Chauhan thought of entering into the education industry. In the mid-1990s, Chauhan founded Amity, and later in 2005, he founded Amity University.[5]
Controversies
Chauhan has been the subject of multiple outstanding controversies and lawsuits. In 2000, Chauhan was charged with a lawsuit in Germany, but was never extradited for prosecution.[6]
In 2005, AICTE, India's regulator of private colleges, cancelled Amity University's license for its postgraduate business course. Independent accounts from journalists also attest to the failure of the university to comply with AICTE guidelines.[7]
Rule 2(a) of the CISCE Rules for Affiliation 2016 explicitly states that schools in India must be run by a registered society or trust for non-profit purposes and are not allowed to serve as profit-oriented investment ventures.[8] Despite this, Chauhan is known to own a row of houses in posh Defence Colony of Delhi, strongly implying that the trust funds of his Balved Foundation were used against the law for personal gains.[9]
