Early life and education
Antonio Cipriano was raised in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, where he attended University Liggett High School. He was involved in numerous local and school theatre productions and was a member of the Michigan Opera Theatre Children's Chorus.
Career
In May 2017, Cipriano won the 6th annual Sutton Foster Ovation Awards' Best Actor award for "outstanding achievement in individual artistry, vocal, dance and acting performances for a male lead in a high school musical theatre production" for his performance as Mickey McKee in Hello! My Baby.[2] As a result, he represented Michigan at the 2017 National High School Musical Theater Awards (also known as the Jimmy Awards) and placed in the top four finalists out of the thirty-six male competitors.[3][4]
In September 2021, Cipriano quit his role in ‘’Jagged Little Pill’’, after the musical’s non-binary character, Jo, was changed to cis-gender. He stated, “I have to acknowledge the harm that many trans + non-binary, and all marginalised folks, on-stage cast members and off have endured through the years … Broadway should be a safe space for everyone to create and experience art. All artists deserve to exist fully and authentically”.[5]
Personal life
As of June 2019, Cipriano is dating fellow Broadway star Reneé Rapp.[6]
In December 2021, the pair split.
